This report describes trends in felony sentencing in Illinois in 2010-2022, covering most of SPAC’s existence as the state sentencing commission and just over a decade of changes and reforms to numerous parts of the criminal justice system. We first provide a timeline of significant legislative, judicial, and executive reforms that impacted the Illinois criminal justice system from 2010 to 2022. We then provide data covering broad trends in felony arrests, guilty dispositions, and sentences, as well as prison admissions, exits, and populations from January 1st, 2010, through December 31, 2022.
